Medals awarded to Percy

As Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) day comes and go, we are reminded of the men and women who served for their country. The early morning dawn service, saying a few words and the bugle signaling the “Last post”. The every year ceremony with our military personal marching through the streets to celebrate our achievements and to remember the people who served and died for their country. Whether that being on the battlefield or afterwards. We still need to recognise that. I was immune to wars before me but I still need to appreciate the life I live which could have been a lot different.

The medals in the photo were awarded to my grandfather (Percy ) who, a Warrant Officer in charge, was to repair radios for the Australian Ninth Division. Some of the faulty radios were retrieved from the damaged tanks. This is where the rubber hits the road in terms of war time action, seeing body parts spread amongst the cabin. This had a considerable effect on him for most of his returning civilian life. But let’s not reflect on that. What ever you’re doing on this fine autumn day, spare some time to appreciate the life we live. Stand on top of a hill, walk through the park or go and visit the love ones. Just do it!
