I was moved by two ladies facing opposite in a Cafe. One bowing her head in despair, the other reaching over consulting and reassuring. Their hands intertwined to show their strong companionship. One would only imagine their predicament. Perhaps she’s been jilted, lost a loved one or has issues at work. One was needy, her friend in control. The friend moves over to embrace, caressing her back. I could see the tears through her dark curls draping across her cheeks. Her hands were shaking, fidgeting, trying to find the proper position. The scene was moving for anybody watching. It wouldn’t have matter who, when or where, and then, something was said for reassurance. perhaps a word or an proposed action, their mood changed. Like a tourist passing through a market or an ocean wave crashing on the shore, their emotions had passed, and the tears were gone. She stands and flicks her hair away, ready to face the world again. They organise themselves and depart.
What have I just witnessed?
