Is ‘Love’ the answer?

Is ‘Love’ the answer?

I’ve been told that never post anything about politics and religion. Simply because if you do then you are putting yourself in the game of choosing sides. Although, what if I’m asking a question? What if, I’m trying to work out what’s it all means. Perhaps I can ask the audience. But I don’t want them to choose sides either. So disregard that. Although I am puzzled, the epiphany of the existence of God returns within me. So I post!

Is love? God! I onced asked. Do we seek ‘Love’ instead of mistaking thinking that we are seeking ‘God’. Some religions coerce you into their sect by saying God loves you and so you attend wanting/needing to be Loved. Is the answer that simple?

Back in 2016, my family toured Canada and USA. I noted in my 2016 journal that I had an epiphany about religion because I was approached by a believer on the street and I asked myself. What motivates this person?

The diary extract goes like this.

There are three words in this equation, God, Love and Creation. So from the old testament God creates, Love creates, so therefore God is love. The meaning of love I believe is a little bit clouded in its definition. Because when I looked it up in the dictionary. The first of many definitions was “a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person”. Like so I’m thinking it’s all about us humans fornicating over and over again so this what I’m thinking when I trying to understand the words in the bible. Now let’s take the word “Love” back a level. Let’s use the basic fundamentals to understand why love creates. Life only exists through the making of molecules, these molecules are a compound of the elements (type of atom) such as hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and etc. So with the changing of temperatures within the universe, certain molecules are created or dissipated. I say dissipated because all atoms where created back at the Big bang and they have existed ever since. They can’t be destroyed, they only dissipate to other forms. When you look at how an atom is structured it’s has a positive nucleus and negative electrons and they intertwine with each other. So there are two particles for an atom to exist. So when you look at life, there are two entities that exist to create life and the attraction between them is Love. Life is created from love. So the word love is ill defined in many dictionaries. Maybe there’s another word we can use. God! Perhaps I’ll think about that definition when I’m listening to a sermon somewhere and maybe embellish it to tell another story.

I look back at this passage and think perhaps God is love so I goggled the words “God is Love” and it returns with a bible passage – 1 John 4:8 “Whoever does not love, does not know God, because God is love” Now there are a number interpretation to the wording. “God is love” however it was noted in the Knowing Jesus website by turning the wording around that love is God” ” It is unbiblical, totally untrue, and denies the plain truth of God’s Word which clearly states that GOD IS LOVE but never that love is God!” (Source: https://dailyverse.knowing-jesus.com/1-john-4-8)
Although playing with the abstract component of the English translation. In “God is love” The subject comes first (God), the verb and then the object (Love). If you turn it around “love is God” it would be like rearranging the sentence as so “The car is racing” to “The racing is car” this wouldn’t make sense. Because the word “racing” is considered a verb which goes for the same as ‘Love’. So perhaps I’m wrong in understanding the message, perhaps love isn’t God. Although it comes down to the translation between the original transcript and English . Has Chinese whispers kept in?

The word love has a number of meanings. The Ancient Greeks identified four forms of love:

  • Storge; kinship or familiarity,
  • Philia; friendship and/or platonic desire,
  • Eros; sexual and/or romantic desire, and
  • Agape; self-emptying or divine love.

Is it one of these meanings?

Then you ask, why do 85% of the world’s population believe in some form of God? Whether it be one or multiple Gods. What motivates the believers to worship an existence, an supreme being or a deity?
When we are born, we don’t know what love or God is, although we are loved (Storge) from the beginning, the couple that brought you into this world will love you. So you were brought up being loved, and if you’re not, then strangely somehow, it effects you.

Religion on the other hand, takes a form of a community, a shared believe or love (Agape) taken from our ancestors through forms of teaching, preaching and/or literature. Depending on where you live, that form of believe will differ to which God you follow. Perhaps the most common element here, something that we all have and are able to feel is “Love”(Philia). I asked? Is that the message that was determined so long ago and somehow it’s been clouded in the mixture of beliefs. I refer to the New Testament 1 John 4:8 phrase. ‘God is love’.

Let’s look at Atheism, the non believers of God. Why do they lack the belief in God? Perhaps it is because of the unrealistic stories in the bible, the invisible man in the sky syndrome and the understanding of science which counter argues the existence. Although, can the atheist ‘Love’? Is it human nature to love or feel love? How can they not believe in love? Perhaps we should change the wording of ‘God’ to ‘Love’. Would they understand and believe then?

So I’m still pondering about it. Is it that simple? Has the riddle been determined? Is love the answer?

A child being loved
