Provence

Provence

Once my sister knew we were visiting France, she arranged to meet us and hang out for a week in the south of France in a place called Apt within the Provence region. Sounds nice? Well, it was. There was a house available on the side of a mountain overlooking the Apt valley. We hit some good weather here and currently, as I’m writing this segment next to the pool, I’m overlooking the town of Apt in beautiful sunny weather. (photo). If I were to retire, this would be a nice place to stay for a while.

The rugby World Cup is currently being staged in France and there are a few matches being played in Marseille, 30 minutes down the road from Avignon. No tickets were available so we were unlikely to attend. The Ouigo very fast train from Paris to Marseille was full since there were games being played that day and the next. There were some Scotts on the train so we had a chat. Their match against South Africa was the next day. We got off at Avignon and rented a car to drive to the house. Driving on the other side of the road is challenging, more so in car parks than on the road. At least the road directs you more. We had trouble with the navigation in the MG. My first attempt had us drive into a lane way and to someone’s property so, my wife took over and got us on the right path. The house has 7 bedrooms with an ensuite for each. The kitchen is huge willing to cater for our group. The villa is positioned on the side of the hill and so much so that the third story you can walk off the balcony to the uphill. To make things perfect, it was mostly sunny and above 30 degrees C, as mentioned, the house has a lane pool and the water was refreshing. It has an upper pool which fills up with the hillside seeping and flows through a spout into Fountain. It continuously flows all year round. Apt is one of these towns/valleys that’s in the postcard. The roads are single lane and every so often there’s a turn out lane to allow the opposite car to pass. It reminded me of the Isle of Skye in Scotland which I visited many years ago. They drive on the right so a little confusing at times for us Aussies. Yes, I did start driving on the left at times but was reminded by the up coming vehicle. Geezus! There’s so much more to write, anyway next post.
